Free and open to the public.
The Ujima Group, Inc. in partnership with the Town of Cary will host its 25th Annual African American Celebration at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Avenue located in downtown Cary, NC. This year’s theme is: “A Time of Joy and Reflection “.
In February we celebrate African American Month, reflecting on the progress, richness, and diversity of African-American achievements. In 1915, Carter G. Woodson and friends established the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. A year later, the Journal of Negro History, began quarterly publication. In 1926, Woodson proposed and launched the annual February observance of “Negro History Week,” which became “Black History Month” in 1976.
In that tradition, this year’s celebration will honor The Ujima Group, Inc. for its public service to the Cary community during African American History Month.
This year’s celebration includes:
Lydia Dudley, music performer and educator
RMJ Movement Band - The band, featuring Rodney Milton on keyboards, a drummer, and a soloist play contemporary music along with some opera ballads.
Assistant Professor applied piano, music theory, music appreciation, Assistant Professor advanced analysis, and piano humanities
“Nice Touch Band’, a diverse group of Raleigh musicians, which represent various genres across the board. These genres include, but not limited to, Gospel, Jazz, R & B, and Fusion.
You are in for a wonderful treat. There will be arts and crafts, children village, food and fun for the whole family! Come and enjoy the festivities.
